Blackthorn Court is a small complex of 14 flats, traditionally but unusually constructed from cavity brickwork and tile hung hollow blockwork, and with mono pitched roofs and external access stairs.
The project includes the renewal or improvement of walls, windows, doors and roofs, all to renew older elements and to upgrade the thermal performance to modern building regulations. Key to the upgrade is the installation of external wall insulation (EWI) and ancillary works, such as increased loft insulation and ventilation works. Unusual designs like Blackthorn Court are an excellent challenge of Westdale’s skills and experience, and make for an interesting change that we and our dedicated site staff are always glad to rise to. But also key, is showing support and working with residents whose homes we are refurbishing.
Our Site Manager, Jamie McCunnin and Michelle Latham our Tenant Liaison Officer are working closely with Citizen Housing’s Retrofit Officer, Donna Milliner, to deliver our culture of putting people first. We are delighted to have had an overwhelming groundswell of support from the residents whose homes we are refurbishing.
With great teamwork between our companies, and through exemplar collaborative working, with the common goal of serving the residents, we are putting the residents’ needs first. This is not only by showing care and consideration during the works, but also by providing frequent and informative communications throughout the project. As a result, we feel the actions of the combined site team will lead to a very successful scheme.
