Our Community

Enriching communities is at the heart of everything we do at Westdale. For us it’s more than refurbishing homes, it’s enriching the lives of the residents, too.

Community is everything to us

When we’re awarded a new contract, we’re always committed to delivering a regeneration programme that will have both short and long term benefits to the community involved. At the start of each project, an invitation is sent to all residents to join us at our open evening – this is an event where our programme of delivery will be explained, and we’ll display the products we’ll use.

Our team is always on hand to answer any questions anyone may have, including our system suppliers. Following this event, we’ll arrange to carry out individual surveys of all properties, speaking directly with the tenant and identify any specific needs they have concerning the delivery of the works.

Working in partnership with local authorities

Our regeneration programmes provide a number of benefits to the local community, and we work alongside the Housing Association or Council to understand what they feel will benefit the area. Some of the benefits we’ve provided include:

  • Using local labour wherever possible
  • Utilising local services and businesses wherever possible, e.g. provision of skips
  • Involving schools and residents in organised events that encourage them to take pride in their community
  • Encouraging prominent visitors to see the works, for instance MP’s or celebrities
  • Sponsoring local football teams
  • Project street parties with local residents to thank them for their patience
  • Work experience schemes, giving long term unemployed people job experience
  • Support to those applying for jobs e.g. giving advice on what employers are looking for and how to apply
  • Apprenticeship schemes, often leading to full time positions and working towards NVQs
  • Providing funding to regenerate local facilities, e.g. renovating tennis courts and developing new school paths

Our short term community goals

The instant visual impact that our work has on a property is evident as soon as scaffolding is removed and as the programme moves on, tenants become excited about the prospect of their home being transformed. Our site-based Resident Liaison Officers (RLOs) are crucial to what we do everyday as they are always on hand to support tenants and answer any questions. Their experience means they have had success in the past when dealing with vulnerable members of the community and our open site office policy provides reassurance to all residents.

Supporting the future of tenants

Community involvement in a project is always our priority and the work we do helps to enrich the areas as a whole. Our work helps to make the area into a more desirable location to live in, which is often reflected in the resale value of properties we’ve worked on within privately owned residences. The biggest benefit to tenants is the cost savings they’ll realise through our retrofitting work. Not only will they note a reduction in utility costs, but our work also impacts on both climate change and carbon reduction. Improved insulation also promotes positive health benefits, reducing ailments associated with living in a cold home, such as heart attacks and pneumonia and conditions relating to circulatory and respiratory problems.
