Sustainability is a fundamental principle for us at Westdale, which is firmly rooted in our commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability. For all projects we work on, we focus on ensuring that the retrofitting we complete meets the needs of now, without compromising on the environment or the future needs of residents.
We approach all construction with a ‘built to last’ objective. We want to ensure that our work does more than just serving the immediate requirement. For us, it needs to also support the environment, improve energy efficiency in the home, reduce household costs and enhance quality of life for the community. To achieve this we have researched and honed our processes and work alongside partners who share our goals and vision.
When it comes to refurbishing existing structures, we use cost-effective methods, like EWI, that extend the life of a building and facilitate remedial work while occupants continue to reside. As an example, a typical refurbishment completed by Westdale may involve new cladding or windows. A project of this description has been shown to reduce heat loss in the home by up to 75% which not only reduces heating costs, but also decreases carbon dioxide emissions.
We work diligently to minimise the volume of emissions created throughout all building works, our operations and our fleet of vehicles.
We work hard to ensure optimal and efficient use of resources. This includes reducing our waste and conserving valuable materials.
Our sustainability promise focuses strongly on the reutilisation of waste. This means that wherever possible, we repurpose waste materials.
Health and safety is at the forefront of all planning and operations and we prioritise this at all times, to protect the wellbeing of all staff and residents.
At Westdale we have a dedicated Environmental Committee whose focus is to advance energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. As a committee, we look for new ways to improve our practices and eliminate the impact on the environment. In acknowledgement of our commitment, we have received accreditation through Construction Products Certification (CPC), a reputable provider of management systems assessment, certification and training services in the UK.
