Healthier homes: research commences into the health benefits of retrofits

Research is officially being conducted in to the health related benefits of retrofitting. What benefits have we seen?

At Westdale Midlands we’ve seen that retrofitting manifests far greater benefits than just energy consumption improvements and cutting bills. We’ve seen the process open people to living so much healthier in their home and new research is being conducted to highlight the health benefits associated with retrofitting.

The cost of inefficient homes.

Home related illnesses are now known to cost the NHS around £1 billion annually. UK housing features some of the oldest homes in Europe, ill-equipped to efficiently stay warm and use energy economically. These inefficiency’s causing poor air quality, damp and cold homes are now being cited to cause respiratory, cardiovascular and mental health issues. The upcoming research will investigate a deeper understanding on the long-term impact of retrofitting on mental health, cardiovascular and respiratory issues and environmental advantages from retrofitting installations. The research hopes to find a significant link between retrofitting and hitting Net-Zero emission targets and health improvements, as well as cost savings for people including the NHS.

What we’ve found at Westdale.

We’ve already completed retrofits with our clients for their residents and seen the economical and health benefits it can achieve. We’ve got real accounts from people who have experienced a retrofitting journey through our team, and the results are clear – more efficient, economical homes with happier residents.

Take Mandy for example, who’s life became prioritised and paralysed by ensuring there was money on the meter to heat her home. Choosing between a hot bath or heating her home. Now she worries less, having had our full home solution retrofit. She can enjoy putting the heating on less, not having to stress over energy use decisions, and has found herself opening her home to more visitors and is focused on spending more time with her grandchildren. A more focused life on the things that should truly matter.

Mandy’s home isn’t the only one we’ve had long lasting, life changing effects on. We have a range of other stories including Mandy’s here.

It’s great to see officials conducting further research into retrofitting’s benefits. At Westdale Midlands though, we are already aware of the benefits and are seeing them in fruition.
